The opportunity

We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Librarian to oversee the day-to-day running of the Library service desk and associated tasks. They will also assist with student training and contribute to the development of the Library and information services, as well an engage with students through academic activities and promote the Library service to both students and staff members.

About you

The successful candidate will be degree educated and have a recognised qualification in Librarianship or Information Studies. They should also have relevent experience in a complex public facing environment and experience of working with students and staff.

Key tasks

  • Answering a range of enquiries from both staff and students, including guidance using the library catalogue, electronic resources and basic IT use
  • Dealing with any other enquiries received in person, by telephone, online chat, or via email
  • Contributing to the upkeep of a tidy and well-maintained library space
  • Helping to ensure appropriate study environments through the application of library policies
  • Delivering circulation services including the issue and return of library items, creating and amending borrower records, and handling payments for overdue/lost items
  • Processing new books and other items, and maintaining library materials and collections
  • Providing individual study support to students, including help with referencing, exam skills, structuring essays and using online resources
  • Contribute and help to develop the Library’s presence across a range of social media and digital platforms
  • Assist in the development of electronic and in-classroom learning materials including instructional videos, online tutorials and workshop provision
  • Contributing to student induction programmes, guides, tours and any other activities associated with promoting the library and its services

Additional information

Working hours: Working hours normally 8.30am – 5pm but may involve additional and unsocial working hours depending on the nature of the event and occasional travel between campus.
